Angel Fire Resort closes courts for Racquet Center upgrade through July 21

Angel Fire Resort has closed all tennis and pickleball courts through July 21, weather permitting, while crews finish its new Racquet Center. The shutdown affects reservations, clinics and open play, so anyone heading to the mountain resort for court time will have to wait until the project is complete.

The payoff is a larger, more purpose-built racquet setup. Angel Fire Resort says the finished Racquet Center will include 8 dedicated pickleball courts and 6 tennis courts, a split that should make scheduling simpler and give pickleball and tennis their own space instead of forcing shared use. For retreat travelers who plan trips around clinics or organized court sessions, that kind of separation matters.

The upgrade also builds on what Angel Fire already had. The resort’s tennis center has six hard courts available, and Visit Angel Fire New Mexico describes the tennis-and-pickleball setup in a mountain setting. The new center is not replacing a one-off amenity; it is formalizing and expanding an established racquet offering that already draws both visitors and local players.

Angel Fire has been signaling the project for weeks. A May 28, 2025 resort post said new chair lifts, pickleball courts and other upgrades were coming soon, and later resort social posts said work on the new pickleball and tennis courts and pro shop was moving forward exactly as planned. Another post and video said the new tennis and pickleball center was rising quickly and that construction was going exceptionally well.

Chris Schell, the resort’s center manager, said the property has 8 new pickleball courts, is resurfacing its 6 tennis courts and has a new pro shop. Angel Fire Resort also said a ceremony welcomed community leaders, partners and pickleball enthusiasts to celebrate the nearly half-million-dollar project, giving the upgrade a local footprint as well as a resort one.

That makes the current closure feel less like a simple interruption and more like a bridge to a stronger court program. Angel Fire Pickleball Club already lists regular play at the Angel Fire Community Center, and the resort’s expanded Racquet Center should give the area a more substantial base for clinics, open play and court-focused stays once the July 21 window passes.
