Destin opens free city-run pickleball courts beside City Hall Annex

Destin opened four dedicated outdoor pickleball courts at 4000 Indian Bayou Trail beside City Hall Annex, giving beach visitors and local players a free place to play in the middle of town. The city said the courts began operating July 1, 2026 at 8 a.m. and will stay open daily until sunset, with first-come, first-served access and on-site parking.

The setup makes the complex especially useful for vacationers trying to fit pickleball around a Florida trip. The courts sit just west of the City Hall Annex and near the municipal buildings on Indian Bayou Trail, so players can stop in without club membership, court fees or advance reservations. Pre-opening plans also pointed to practical amenities that matter in a travel market: shaded seating, restrooms, water fountains, covered benches, a gravel parking area and a pathway around the complex.

The project had been building for years before the first serve. Destin began talking about public pickleball courts in 2018, and the Destin City Council voted unanimously in February 2024 to move forward with four courts and a bathroom on Indian Bayou Trail. City bid documents later outlined an Annex Pickleball Court project at 4100 Indian Bayou Trail, tying the new facility to the space between the City Hall Annex and the Public Works buildings.

For Destin, the opening adds another layer to an already active pickleball map. Court listings now put the city at more than 25 courts across seven venues, with four free public venues and eight indoor courts. Buck Destin Park already offers two free outdoor courts with first-come, first-served access, and the new City Hall Annex complex gives players another public option close to the city center.

That matters in a place where summer traffic and beach schedules can make advance booking a hassle. A free municipal complex with daily hours and simple access rules gives locals a place to play before work and gives travelers a low-cost way to add pickleball to a Destin itinerary without paying resort rates or chasing a private court reservation. For a sport that keeps growing on the Gulf Coast, the new courts turn a patch of city property into an easy stop between the sand and the dinner table.
