Four new pickleball courts recently opened at Riverwalk Park in Hutto, Texas, capping a $454,000 project that navigated a site change, a public comment process, and roughly six months of construction before the nets went up in March 2026.

The courts feature lighting and seating areas and are located behind the soccer field at Riverwalk Park. The City of Hutto confirmed the courts are officially open and ready for play.

The road to Riverwalk was not straight. The courts were originally planned for Creekside Park, but the contractor found that location unsuitable after site evaluations because of its proximity to residential homes and potential noise impacts. A topographic and boundary survey of Riverwalk Soccer Field Park, along with a geotechnical evaluation for the lights and post-tension court, cost $23,150 and was funded through the park improvement fund. Riverwalk Soccer Field Park ultimately won out, offering 300 feet of buffer space from residences as well as existing parking infrastructure.

Once the new site was confirmed, the city moved into public engagement. The project called for four pickleball courts with solar lighting and seating near the Hutto Soccer Fields, with an anticipated bid date of September 2025 and a construction duration of approximately four months. The City invited residents to review the schematic design and submit feedback before work began.

The completed courts, posted to the City of Hutto's news feed on March 23, 2026, give residents a fresh opportunity to enjoy one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. For a city that has seen rapid population growth and a surge in retail development, the $454,000 investment in dedicated outdoor pickleball infrastructure signals that parks programming is keeping pace with demand.

The Riverwalk location, tucked behind the soccer fields with built-in buffer distance from neighboring homes, addresses the precise concern that derailed the original Creekside Park plan. Whether players are running drop shots at the kitchen line or rallying from the baseline, they now have a permanent, lighted home in Hutto to do it.
