Singapore opens $5 million all-weather pickleball retreat hub

Singapore’s newest pickleball stop gives traveling players a rare combination: 10 air-conditioned courts, a full multi-sport lineup and a location beside Thanggam LRT in Fernvale, all under one $5 million roof. The Sports Arina @ Jalan Kayu officially opened on July 12 after a soft opening in May, turning a neighborhood site into a weather-proof option for players who want a court-first trip without gambling on rain or heat.

At 80,000 square feet, the facility is The Sports Arina’s second branch after Expo, and it is built more like an active-lifestyle base than a one-sport club. Alongside the pickleball courts, the complex includes four badminton courts, three padel courts with AI-enabled cameras, futsal spaces and a shaded basketball or netball court. It also houses academies and schools for table tennis, swimming, football, gymnastics, pickleball and padel, which gives the venue a family-and-youth pipeline that makes sense for mixed-interest groups planning a short stay.

The pitch is already landing with locals. Masri Abdul Rahman said he had been playing almost daily, sometimes twice a day, since the soft opening. Before the new venue opened, his nearest courts were a 15-minute walk away at Sengkang Sport Centre. That kind of convenience matters in a city where access is often the difference between booking a session and skipping it altogether.

The opening also arrives at a moment when Singapore’s pickleball footprint is getting tighter and more competitive. Sport Singapore said public pickleball court bookings have more than tripled since 2023, and the government announced on March 5, 2026, plans to build 50 new multi-purpose badminton and pickleball courts over five years after peak-hour usage at existing courts topped 90 per cent. The Sports Arina @ Expo, the company’s original site, has already been described as Singapore’s first air-conditioned pickleball facility and is marketed with 14 pickleball courts, showing how quickly the brand has moved from one address to a two-site operation.

For retreat-minded players, Jalan Kayu works because it is not trying to be a standalone novelty. It is the kind of indoor, court-heavy base that can anchor a morning of pickleball, an afternoon of cross-training and a dinner return without weather anxiety. With the PPA Asia 500 Singapore Open set for The Sports Arina @ Expo from July 23 to 26, Singapore’s new tournament-and-retreat ecosystem now has another polished indoor stop to match the demand.
