Gin N Juice returns June 20, blending dancehall and reunion vibes

Gin N Juice is coming back to Cherry Garden Great House in St Andrew on June 20, and the pitch is bigger than a standard summer party. Branded as “The Original 90’s House Party,” the night is being sold as a reunion first, with the soundtrack and the social scene working together to bring back the feel of 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s dancehall culture.

Co-promoter Gregg Smith has leaned hard into that idea, framing Gin N Juice as a gathering for friends who have not linked up in person for a while. That is what makes this edition stand out from a routine flyer-and-bar-service event. The music still sits at the center, with Bambino, Gabby and Narity set to handle the selections, and Smith has singled out Gabby as a name to watch. The promise is not just nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, but a night where the right tunes can turn a room into a reunion.

The logistics back that up. The party is scheduled to run from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., giving it the long, loose shape of the house parties it is trying to revive. A crew deal will also give groups five entry tickets, a drink that can be upgraded to a 750ml bottle, a bistro table and VIP parking. That package points straight at the kind of crowd Gin N Juice has always tried to court, people rolling deep, splitting costs and making the night a shared event rather than a solo outing.

That social formula has real history behind it. The first Gin ‘N’ Juice was held in 1994 at College Commons, across from the University of the West Indies, Mona, and the brand has kept stretching across the years while staying close to its retro core. Cherry Garden Great House has already hosted recent editions, including a March 16, 2024 Soca vs Retro staging that drew hundreds of patrons and a July 27, 2024 return. The venue’s own history, on about two acres of the former Gomersall sugar plantation, gives the party a setting that feels old-school in all the right ways. On June 20, Gin N Juice will once again trade on that mix of memory, music and motion, turning a summer kickoff into something closer to a family reunion with a sound system.
