Kyle Rogers has opened Porteur Breads on the first floor of the Tontine Mall at 149 Maine St., bringing sourdough and a roster of slow-fermented breads to Brunswick in a 1,400-square-foot storefront. The bakery lists sourdough loaves alongside honey walnut and country rye, and Rogers plans a pastry lineup that includes croissants and fruit pastries.

Porteur Breads "opened its doors to the public on November 12," according to local reporting, though other launch notices framed the debut as "beginning this Wednesday," leaving the calendar framing unclear. The shop is operating on a Wednesday through Sunday schedule, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while Rogers focuses the early weeks on takeout and staff training rather than full dine-in service.

Most of the 1,400-square-foot space is devoted to the kitchen, with seating planned to follow. Rogers intends to ultimately install about 15 seats; tables had not yet arrived at the time of recent coverage. For now, the bakery is geared to carryout orders and to get staff up to speed before regular in-house service begins.

Porteur’s coffee program runs Tandem Coffee Roasters espresso and drip, a pairing already noted in customer feedback. Yelp photos and listings show specific items on rotation at the counter, including an orange chocolate marzipan croissant, olive sourdough, kouign-amann, raisin walnut bread with candied orange peel, pear danishes, and assorted fruit pastries. One reviewer summed up the early reception with praise for fresh bread and Tandem coffee: "Wonderful fresh baked bread and pastries and Tandem coffee. Friendly, clean atmosphere. This bakery is a great addition to Brunswick."

Rogers brings a known local practice to the bricks-and-mortar shop. He previously ran weekly pop-ups as The Bread Pedlar at the former Nomad Pizza, and he told reporters that the building has a long bakery history: "This building has [a] history of having bakeries in it, which predates my time here. People are used to having a bakery here, and people still wander in looking for the old bakeries. And we’re here instead." Porteur Breads takes the place of the long-standing gift shop Indrani’s in the mall and sits among long-time tenants such as Brickyard Hollow and the Eveningstar Cinema; the site was also home to Wild Oats Bakery and Café before that business moved to Brunswick Landing in 2021.

Looking ahead, Rogers has said he aims to sell wholesale to area restaurants as production stabilizes. Practical details for visitors remain the shop address, 149 Maine St., first floor, and operating hours, Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while seating and a full dine-in rhythm are phased in.
