Sims 4 March 18 Hotfix Causes Black Screens, Hub Issues for Some Players
The March 18 hotfix meant to fix DLC compatibility is blacking out hub screens for some players, with the worst cases locking them out of the game entirely.

A hotfix released March 18 to clean up compatibility problems introduced by a March 17 patch ended up creating a new headache for a portion of The Sims 4 playerbase: hub screens going partially or entirely black, stripping out any display of last-played households or the normal game information that screen is supposed to show.
The update, which landed on PC build 1.122.212.1030 and Mac build 1.122.212.1230, was meant to improve how officially released DLCs and player-created custom content work alongside each other. Instead, several players took to Reddit reporting the opposite of relief. The experience has not been uniform. Some players hit the resume button through the blacked-out hub and found the actual gameplay unaffected. Others ran into something worse, with reports of being locked out of the game entirely.
That variability is part of what makes this frustrating to troubleshoot. There is no clean threshold where one setup breaks and another does not. With close to 100 officially licensed DLCs now available for The Sims 4, ranging from full expansion packs down to small furniture and clothing drops, the permutations of what any given player has running are enormous. Maxis has been navigating that growing compatibility burden across the game's 11-plus years of active support, and the March 17 patch appears to have destabilized something that the March 18 hotfix has not fully resolved.

For players who clear the black screen and still find expansion or custom content behaving badly, Maxis added the Pack Selector in an August 2025 update. The feature lets players configure individual neighborhoods so that only content from a selected subset of their owned packs is active in that save. It cuts down on conflicts by sidelining packs you are not actively using, and it has the side benefit of letting players build more focused, thematically consistent saves.
As of this writing, no official Maxis statement acknowledging the black screen issue or outlining a follow-up fix has surfaced in the provided information. Players experiencing complete lockouts should check EA Answers HQ and the official Sims 4 community forums for any developer response that may have come through since the hotfix dropped.
