Ghosts are real in Ravenwood, and the afterlife is just another Tuesday. Ravenwood is the world shipped with The Sims 4: Life & Death, known for its paranormal activity, ghostly powers, and numerous festivals — and it also features the first cemetery in The Sims 4. If you've been wandering its cobbled streets and mossy ruins without a map, SimsCommunity's author Melli has put together the definitive guide to this world's neighborhoods, lots, NPCs, and festival schedule.

What makes Ravenwood genuinely compelling is how much variety it packs into one world. Despite its deathly theme, Ravenwood is not wholly a dark world. Apart from its one gloomy neighborhood, it's surprisingly vibrant and lively, with both the living and the dead residing there. It's a Romanian-inspired town nestled in a mountain region: cozy and creepy, mixing mortality and the macabre with warmth and wholesomeness.

Built by the community

Before diving into the neighborhoods themselves, it's worth knowing that Ravenwood didn't come from EA's internal build teams alone. The world features builds from four EA Creator Network members from Europe: create4sims, Kate Emerald, Simsphony, and sofythesim. The serene countryside of Whispering Glen is influenced by the natural beauty of the Balkan region, while Crow's Crossing takes cues from Romanian medieval towns for its eerie ambiance. In Mourningvale, more fantastical elements were incorporated to give the afterlife neighborhood its distinctive intrigue.

The contributions are specific and traceable. Create4Sims built Eternal Hollow, The Marigold Chateau, and Moppy Manor, while Kate Emerald created Teardrop Cottage, Crow's Perch, and the Old Ravenwood Estate. It's the eighth world to have all lots built entirely by Simmers, and the tenth world overall to contain lots built by Simmers. That context matters when you're walking through these spaces — you're seeing fellow Simmers' creative fingerprints on every roofline.

The three neighborhoods

Ravenwood consists of three neighborhoods and one secret lot that is only accessed through the reaper career. There are a total of 13 normal lots in Ravenwood: 8 residential lots, 2 empty lots, and 3 community lots. Each neighborhood has a distinct identity, a distinct vibe, and its own set of festivals.

Whispering Glen

This is where you go when the hauntings get to be too much. "Nestled in the rolling hills of Ravenwood's countryside, Whispering Glen offers a quiet, rural locale for those hoping to take a step away from all the local hauntings and into a slow-paced lifestyle. Steeped in ruins and rumors, it's paradise for collectors and historians alike. Explore the local Crypt, investigate the Tarot Tome Shrine at the base of the ruins, garden in the shared community plots, or just round out a Collection."

It has four lots next to the meadows and a river where your Sim can take a nice swim. There are also ruins to explore. The buildings have an old, ancient style that feels warm and welcoming — the perfect place for a family to start their own cozy legacy away from the afterlife (almost).

The festival here is one of Ravenwood's most distinctive. "Whispering Glen also hosts a nightly festival beside the Ancestor face cliff: The Moon Revelry (Clothing Optional during the Full Moon)." When the light from the moon is at its brightest, head over to the Ancestor Face Cliff to partake in the Moon Revelry event. You can find the lot by going to the Hay Hill Landing residential lot in Whispering Glen, the large lot beside the Aether household. It runs from 7:20PM until 1:20AM. If you have the Werewolves Game Pack installed, a Full Moon will trigger the optional clothing rule, letting your entire neighborhood bathe in the moonlight. And yes, swimming past the Ancestor Face Cliff is worth doing: if you swim in the water by the rock during a Moon Revelry, your Sim will gain a special moodlet that leaves them awed and Inspired for a time.

Crow's Crossing

If Whispering Glen is Ravenwood at its most pastoral, Crow's Crossing is Ravenwood at its most actively haunted. Crow's Crossing is a village founded by Moppy the Goat and rumored to be frequented by ghosts and regular hauntings. Visit the Mysterious Merchant in the old Specter graveyard, investigate the Tarot Tome Shrine on the edge of town, explore an abandoned house, or grant a wish at the Well of Longing and Regret. Just watch out for Edith.

Crow's Crossing is the centre of Ravenwood, mostly built inspired by the Romanian medieval town. It has 5 lots surrounded by nature and trees in pretty autumn colors. This town is full of history, with many features your Sim can interact with and read about — the buildings are old and unique, each holding its own stories.

The festival calendar here is the busiest in the world. Crow's Crossing hosts the Try Before You Die Casket Sale, the Crow's Crossing Celebration of Life, and Ravenwood Family Day. Just outside of the Town Hall, the Crow's Crossing Celebration of Life runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays between 11AM and 5PM. On Saturdays, the Ravenwood Family Day event runs from 12PM to 8PM, where while kids run off to the playground with glowing specters, parents can speak to an Inheritance Lawyer who sets up a makeshift office at the event to help sort Sims' wills and funeral plans. Behind the large fountain in the town square, you'll find Town Hall, where your Sim can also write a will and read about ancient archives.

Mourningvale

The third neighborhood is where things get genuinely otherworldly. Mourningvale is probably the most beautiful sub-neighborhood in Ravenwood, bathed in a beautiful lilac light that makes everything seem ethereal. There's something otherworldly about it — maybe it's the way the wind howls through the moss-draped trees, the eerie clang from the Bell Tower at odd hours, or the sentient plants. No matter the reason, many Ghosts choose to call this place home.

The defining feature here is the Baleful Bog. Sims can take a dip in the Baleful Bog to have an out-of-body experience or transition into Rebirth, partake in local customs and tarot at the Thinned Festiveil, or make peace with their mortality at the Afterlife Anonymous meetup. Club Eternity is a nightclub in the Mourningvale district that caters to ghosts — but the living are more than welcome to visit, provided they know how to be cool.

Notable lots and NPCs

Headless Quarter and Grim

The most important office address in all of Ravenwood is a 20x20 lot called Headless Quarter, priced at §91,515 with a Fast Internet lot trait. The guide's description of it is worth quoting in full: "It's Grim's office. He works here. While his personal crow should always be the employee of the month, Grim has decided he is the best at his job. He does own the place...and has been Reaping for centuries. Now Grim has opened up his practice to new Grimterns, eager to climb their way up the noncorporeal ladder."

That last line is the key gameplay hook. The expansion introduces the Reaper Profession, in which Sims with an affinity for the afterlife can become Grimterns and work their way up to Reaper as they make a career out of facilitating the next phase of life for Sims. Grim's office isn't just set dressing — it's the starting point for that entire career path. There is also a secret lot that is only accessed through the reaper career, so the higher you climb up that noncorporeal ladder, the more of Ravenwood opens up to you.

Eternal Hollow

Eternal Hollow is Ravenwood's primary Cemetery. The main building is an intimate locale to say goodbye to the recently passed, and with plenty of graves and crypts still open, it'll continue to be a popular location for burials for years to come. Locals know Eternal Hollow's pond is also one of the better places to find a Death Frog or the rare Bonefish. Whether a Sim is spending their forever here or just visiting, they will certainly feel at home. It's a 64x64 lot priced at §106,140, designed by Create4Sims.

Old Ravenwood Estate

The Old Ravenwood Estate is rich with lore. Initially empty when you load the world, it's Ravenwood's residential creepy house, located in Crow's Crossing just moments away from village life. Filled with broken floorboards and a garden gone wild, this lot is for sale to any Sim brave (or foolish) enough to delve within. It's connected to Lady Ravenwood and her mysterious tarot deck, so those curious about that collection may find some answers within. Kate Emerald is most proud of this build — it's a 50x50 lot, and she loved creating such a grand mansion with a majestic shape. The twist of making it look stately yet derelict was challenging and fun.

Collecting in Ravenwood

If you're a dedicated collector, Ravenwood is essentially purpose-built for you. There are plenty of collectibles across all three neighborhoods, whether you're building up a collectible collection, completing tasks, crafting items, or just selling for Simoleons. Tarot Cards, in particular, are a collectible collection unique to Ravenwood. Collector Signs in each of the three neighborhoods point the way, and exploring Crypts can yield further secrets. Whispering Glen's community garden plots and the Tarot Tome Shrines scattered across the map give collectors an active reason to visit every corner of the world rather than sticking to the town square.

The depth of Ravenwood rewards players who explore slowly and thoroughly. Whether you're working toward the Grimtern career, hunting for the rare Bonefish at Eternal Hollow's pond, attending a nude bonfire dance during a Full Moon Moon Revelry, or just trying to figure out what Edith is guarding at the Well of Longing and Regret, there is always one more thing to find.
