Courtney Clenney sentenced to six years in boyfriend's killing plea deal

Courtney Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of probation after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli. The plea deal reduced the case from second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and ended the criminal proceedings without a trial. The killing happened on April 3, 2022, inside the couple’s luxury Edgewater condo at the One Paraiso condominium in Miami.

Clenney, the former OnlyFans model known online as Courtney Tailor, had maintained that she acted in self-defense during an argument with Obumseli. The case drew intense public attention because of her social-media profile, the high-rise Miami setting, and the long-running dispute over whether the stabbing was intentional or justified. Obumseli was 27 when he died, and the legal fight over the killing stretched on for years before the plea agreement brought it to an end.

Before sentencing, Obumseli’s family delivered victim impact statements in court. His family had agreed to the plea deal and wanted closure, while his mother told the court that no sentence could bring her son back. The negotiated resolution spared both sides the uncertainty of a murder trial and avoided weeks of testimony about the couple’s relationship, the argument that preceded the stabbing and the self-defense claim that had framed Clenney’s defense.

The sentence also means Clenney is likely to serve about two more years in prison after credit for time already served. For a case that became a fixture of true-crime coverage because of its celebrity edge, Miami setting and disputed facts, the courtroom ending was far more compact than the public drama that surrounded it. What began with a fatal stabbing in a Miami condo closed with a plea, a prison term and a case that will not be tried before a jury.
