The 6-year-old child called 911 after Keith Washington allegedly shot and killed his wife, Tynice Friday, in front of their two children in Cypress, turning a domestic fight into a murder case in real time. Harris County authorities said Friday, 44, was killed late on April 10 in the 14100 block of Cypress Falls Drive in northwest Harris County, and her family had already told investigators they believed she feared for her life because of Washington’s recent behavior.

Deputies said the shooting started outside the home, where Washington fired from his silver truck. Investigators said he shot out the living room window, forced his way inside, and fired multiple times at Friday before fleeing. ABC13 reported the suspect allegedly broke into the home and kept firing in front of the couple’s 6-year-old and 18-year-old children. Friday was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington did not get far. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, constables, and Texas Department of Public Safety officers tracked him down after a search that turned into an hours-long standoff. Authorities said he was cornered at a dead-end road, refused commands, and fired shots from inside his truck before surrendering. HCSO said investigators were also seeking a warrant to search Washington’s vehicle for the weapon used in the attack.

By then, the case had already settled into the grim pattern that defines too many domestic-violence deaths: a spouse trying to leave, a family sensing danger, and a final confrontation that turned fatal. Friday had recently filed for divorce, and the allegations point to a household fracture that escalated fast and ended with police units surrounding a vehicle and a murder suspect in custody. Washington was booked into the Harris County Jail on a murder charge as investigators continued building the timeline.

The killing lands in the middle of a broader public-safety crisis. FOX 26 Houston reported Harris County saw a 34% increase in domestic-violence tied homicides between 2023 and 2024. The Texas Council on Family Violence said 161 Texans died from domestic violence in 2024, including 47 in Harris County, and firearms were used in 114 of those murders. The same report said 69% of victims were killed in their own homes and 75% had previously sought help. In this case, the home was exactly where the violence turned lethal.
