Houston Man, 18, Arrested, Charged With Capital Murder in Fatal Shooting
An 18-year-old barricaded himself in a Southwest Freeway apartment after allegedly shooting a 61-year-old woman and fleeing in her vehicle.

Darius Dewayne Hall, 18, is facing a capital murder charge after a late-night shooting at a Houston apartment complex left a 61-year-old woman dead and triggered a multi-agency manhunt that ended with Hall barricading himself inside an empty unit miles away.
Officers responded to a shooting call at 500 West 20th Street around 11:50 p.m. on March 6, 2026. The victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Her identity remains pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The investigation took a significant turn when HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Nicotra and J. Wallschlaeger determined that a vehicle associated with the victim was missing from the scene, indicating evidence of a robbery. Once the vehicle's owner reported it missing, HPD launched a coordinated search pulling in the Westside Division, Central Division's Crime Suppression Teams, and SWAT, with additional support from the Bellaire Police Department and West University Police Department.
The vehicle was located and a pursuit followed. Hall ended the chase by barricading himself inside an empty apartment at 3131 Southwest Freeway. He was eventually taken into custody without further detail on how the standoff concluded.
After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Hall was charged with capital murder and booked into the Harris County jail. His case has been assigned to the 496th Criminal District Court. The City of Houston posted the arrest announcement on March 9, 2026, three days after the shooting.
Capital murder in Texas carries the possibility of the death penalty or life without parole, making the charge among the most serious Hall could face at 18.
