Virginia shooting spree leaves two women dead, suspect in custody

Trevor Claude Henriques was taken into custody after a shooting spree across Northampton County, Virginia, left two women dead, three other people injured and a deputy spared by a ballistic vest. The violence began with gunfire at Randall Circle in Nassawadox and spread to multiple scenes before Henriques was hit by gunfire and detained.

Deputies first responded to Randall Circle at about 4:30 a.m. Monday after a shots-fired report in the Nassawadox area. When they arrived, they encountered an armed man with a rifle. He fired several rounds at two occupied patrol vehicles before fleeing in another vehicle. One round struck a deputy’s ballistic vest, which prevented a fatal injury.

Henriques, 45, of Nassawadox, was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of attempted aggravated second-degree murder and possession of a firearm after a violent felony conviction. The two women killed were Katrina Henriques, 70, the suspect’s mother, and Rebecca Knox, 37, his girlfriend.

The confrontation then moved to Parallel Road in Machipongo, where gunfire was exchanged at two homes and at law enforcement officers. Police also linked an earlier shooting to Seaside Road in Nassawadox. The three surviving victims were hospitalized, and their conditions were not immediately released. Virginia State Police assisted the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office as deputies worked the separate scenes across the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Sheriff David Doughty said there was no active threat to the community after Henriques was contained. The sheriff’s office asked the public for tips and offered a Tip411 reporting option. More charges were likely as the case moved forward.
