Resident Evil Requiem reached 7 million copies in just under two months, a pace that puts Capcom’s latest horror release in a class of its own and shows the series is still capable of launching like an event instead of a routine sequel. The game moved past 5 million units on March 4 and 6 million on March 16, then climbed to 7 million by late April, making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil title to date.

That speed matters because it puts Requiem ahead of the franchise’s recent benchmark, Resident Evil 4 remake, which Capcom said topped 7 million units nearly a year after its March 24, 2023 launch. Requiem reached the same mark in a fraction of that time, and Capcom has been explicit that it was the fastest entry in series history to hit both the 5 million and 6 million milestones. For a brand that has now surpassed 183 million cumulative sales worldwide as of December 31, 2025, the result is more than a strong opening. It is proof that Resident Evil still has the reach to command broad global attention.

Capcom launched Resident Evil Requiem on February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The company positioned it as the ninth mainline Resident Evil installment, built in RE ENGINE and designed around both first-person and third-person play styles. It also centers on two protagonists, Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, a lineup that connects a new lead with one of the franchise’s most recognizable names.

The sales surge gave Capcom a reason to treat Requiem like a franchise-wide celebration. The company has planned ongoing support and additional game content for the game, while also lining up 30th-anniversary plans for Resident Evil, including a Universal Studios Japan collaboration and orchestral concerts in Japan, the United States, and Europe. That anniversary arrives on March 22, 2026, and Requiem’s runaway pace gives Capcom a strong commercial story to carry into it.

The enthusiasm around the milestone also spilled into a staff celebration that reportedly included Geoff Keighley, who helped host an after-party bingo session, alongside Leon- and Grace-themed cakes. The details were playful, but the message was clear: Capcom is treating Requiem as a pillar release, not just another hit. With sales this fast, Resident Evil is no longer being preserved as legacy horror. It is being used as one of the company’s sharpest tools for modern blockbuster growth.
