Surprise Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch Repairs Corrupted Saves, Fixes Act 2 Blockers
Larian pushed a small surprise patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC and consoles that repairs rare corrupted saves and an Act 2 to Act 3 progression blocker; players report affected Honor Mode runs now opening.

Larian Studios released a surprise technical update for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC and consoles aimed specifically at stability and save repair, with outlets reporting a small download of roughly 100–120 MB and no new gameplay content. GamingBible described the update as “around 100MB on PC or consoles,” while PCGamesN reported a 120MB download; Yahoo Tech called it “north of 100 MB.” Multiple outlets emphasized the patch does not add subclasses, quests, or other content.
The studio teased the fix on its social channels with the line “Bet you thought you’d seen the last of these,” and followed with the explicit message, “As it turns out, a few crashes and technical issues were still knocking about, so if you were getting stuck while loading saves, or trying to progress from Act 2 into Act 3, your corrupted saves should now be fixed!” PC Gamer noted the tease appeared on the Larian Discord, GamingBible pointed to X, and CBR reported a Larian team member clarified details on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit.
Players on Reddit and community threads posted immediate confirmations that the patch helped restore broken runs. PC Gamer quoted bladesmantis: “This update fixed my Honor Mode save, now opens again. BLESS YOU LARIAN,” and quoted stahnke_as_pho: “My run that crashed at 75% on every load is now playable after updating. Blessed.” GamingBible framed the bug’s impact bluntly: “If you’re one of the unlucky ones, this issue can completely destroy your entire playthrough by corrupting all of your saves, not allowing you to continue your adventure and forcing you to start over.” That risk made the fix especially meaningful for Ironman and Honour Mode players, a point PC Gamer noted with the line, “That last one is especially heartbreaking for honour mode players.”
This corrupted-save issue has a history of lingering fixes. GamingBible reported that “Larian addressed these bugs in subsequent patches, but the issue still remained under some circumstances. However, it looks like it might have finally squashed the problem once and for all.” CBR added context that Baldur’s Gate 3 launched in 2023 and has since received a series of free content updates, including new subclasses, endings, and official mod support, while Larian balances work on the next Divinity game with continued BG3 support.
At the time of initial reporting, outlets observed limited formal patch notes published on the game’s website or store pages. CBR noted fans were unsure what the update did because “no official patch notes were released on the game's website or Steam page.” Early community reactions and the studio’s social posts provide the clearest detail so far, and multiple players have confirmed their saves opened after updating. PC Gamer summed the moment with a wry editorial line: “It's just, you know, doing patch stuff: fixing crashes and ironing out glitches. Well. Fine.”
