Phil Spencer's retirement in February left a decade-long era of Xbox leadership in the rearview, and the showcase that defines what Asha Sharma does next arrives June 7. Microsoft's choice to follow the main Xbox Games Showcase 2026 immediately with a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct is not just a fan-service move. After Gears 5 shipped in 2019 and the series went quiet except for the Gears Tactics spin-off in 2020, Xbox is pinning its biggest post-show spotlight on a full franchise revival. Whether that bet pays off is exactly what the June 7 Direct is built to answer.

The showcase kicks off at 10 a.m. PT, translating to 1 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. BST, 7 p.m. CEST, and for Asia-Pacific viewers, June 8 at 2 a.m. JST and 3 a.m. AEST. All streams run simultaneously on Xbox's YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook channels. Xbox's stated promise for the main show: "first gameplay looks and huge news on upcoming titles from our first-party studios across the Xbox family, as well as our third-party partners around the globe, from the biggest franchises to soon-to-be indie darlings."

The Gears of War: E-Day Direct, arriving immediately after, exists to close out the biggest remaining questions about the game. The Coalition is co-developing it with People Can Fly, the studio that previously built Gears of War: Judgment, and the title carries a confirmed 2026 window for Xbox Series X/S and PC, with Game Pass day-one already locked in. What is not confirmed: co-op or multiplayer details. That omission is the conversation the Gears community has been sitting with since the 2024 announcement. The series built its identity on two-player campaign co-op, and Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago both appear in E-Day's prequel setting, set 14 years before the original game. The Direct is the clearest platform Microsoft has had to either restore that expectation or redefine it. Xbox says the session will take players "into the start of Emergence Day" with "new details, gameplay and insights about the hugely anticipated origin story to the Gears of War saga."

The main showcase is where Sharma and new Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty define the broader 2026 slate. Fable from Playground Games is the most anticipated title on the board, with reports placing it on a fall 2026 target and a release date announcement widely expected. Halo Studios' Halo: Campaign Evolved remake and Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons 2 both carry 2026 windows without firm dates, making them prime candidates for stage time. Microsoft's Activision Blizzard ownership puts a next Call of Duty showing essentially on the confirmed side. Deeper in the pipeline sit State of Decay 3, Clockwork Revolution, OD from Kojima Productions, and an unspecified project from Toys for Bob. The Elder Scrolls 6 is not happening June 7.

Sharma and Booty are also expected to address Project Helix, the next Xbox hardware confirmed as a system designed to run PC games alongside console titles. It will be the first time either executive has had a full showcase platform to lay out a hardware roadmap publicly.

Xbox FanFest returns to Los Angeles alongside the event as part of Xbox's 25th anniversary, with programming described as "a look back at the last 25 years of Xbox, alongside a forward view of what is to come." The broadcast will stream in more than 40 languages, including American Sign Language, British Sign Language, and a dedicated English audio description feed.
