SpiceLab launched as a generative synthesizer for iPad, positioning itself as "a musical instrument that plays, evolves, and surprises you." Developer Iscanet Internet Services S.r.l. dropped it on March 26, 2026, and the ambition is real: this is not a sequencer bolted onto a basic tone generator. It is a self-contained instrument that routes Euclidean rhythm generation and Markov-based melodic evolution directly through a polyphonic analog-style subtractive engine, all within a single AUv3-compatible app.

The synthesis architecture starts with dual oscillators covering sine, saw, square, and triangle waveforms, with per-oscillator controls for octave, fine tune, and mix, backed by a sub oscillator and noise generator. The filter section is a dual high-pass/low-pass design with configurable routing order, a drive and saturation stage, and filter keyboard tracking. Two ADSR envelopes handle amplitude and filter duties separately, and the curves are exponential rather than linear. Pair that with oscillator drift and you get something that behaves less like a clinical software instrument and more like aging hardware that has developed its own personality. Two LFOs with sine, triangle, and random shapes round out the modulation sources, and poly, mono, and unison play modes are all available with glide.

The generative engine is where SpiceLab separates itself from a straightforward subtractive synth clone. The 16-step sequencer runs Euclidean rhythm generation via the Bjorklund algorithm, Markov-based pitch transitions with configurable memory, and a bounded mutation engine using deterministic seeded randomness. That last detail matters: "bounded" mutation with a seeded random engine means patterns drift but stay musically coherent. They do not collapse into noise. Four macro controls, labeled Mutation, Density, Chaos, and Memory, put the generative behavior directly at your fingertips.

Modulation routing follows an approach that is increasingly common in serious iPad instruments but rarely implemented this cleanly. A per-destination modulation matrix lets you route any source to any knob or fader via long-press assignment for LFOs, envelopes, velocity, mod wheel, or randomness, with colored arcs animating in real time to show exactly how each modulator shapes the sound. Visual feedback of that kind is genuinely useful in a touch interface where you can not always feel what a knob is doing.

The sequencer also includes host tempo sync, latch mode, and swing, with per-step controls for pitch, gate, velocity, probability, and repeat. On the performance side, the on-screen keyboard offers selectable ranges from 25 to 88 keys with octave shift, and MIDI Learn is available via long-press on any control, with separate MIDI Learn profiles that save and switch hardware mappings independently from presets. Twenty-six factory presets ship across six categories, including six with curated mod matrix routings already dialed in.

SpiceLab runs as a standalone app with its own on-screen keyboard or as an AUv3 instrument plugin inside Logic Pro for iPad and other compatible hosts. In AUv3 mode it supports full parameter automation, host transport and tempo sync, and complete state save and restore.

Pricing has not been confirmed at this stage, nor have minimum iPadOS version requirements or CPU voice limits. The Bjorklund algorithm powering the Euclidean generator is the same mathematical backbone used in modular Euclidean sequencers that have been a staple of hardware setups for over a decade. Pulling it into an instrument that also handles its own analog-style sound generation, without requiring a host sequencer or patch cable, is a meaningful consolidation for anyone who wants the feel of a generative hardware rig without the rack space.
