Woodturning Tool Store Adds Back-in-Stock Email Alerts for Sold-Out Items
Tod Raines's Woodturning Tool Store added automatic email alerts for sold-out items, ending the manual refresh loop that stalls projects when specialty gouges and finishes backorder.

Any woodturner who has watched a bowl blank dry out while waiting for a backordered gouge to return to stock knows the particular frustration of a supply chain that doesn't move at the speed of shop time. The Woodturning Tool Store addressed that friction earlier this month when owner Tod Raines rolled out a "Notify When Back In Stock" email alert system, converting the passive wait for specialty inventory into an automated queue.
The mechanics are straightforward. On any out-of-stock product page, a "Notify When Back In Stock" button now appears. Customers enter their email address and the system fires an automatic alert when inventory is replenished. Raines specified that addresses collected through the alert function are used exclusively for restocking notifications and are not folded into any general marketing list, a distinction that matters to buyers who transact regularly with smaller specialty retailers.
The feature went live March 21 and received a site update March 25. The timing is useful context: CBN grinding wheels in specialty grits and purpose-ground bowl gouges from boutique makers are exactly the kind of items that cycle in and out of stock at turning-focused retailers with little predictability. Rather than manually checking a product page every few days, a turner can register an alert, continue the project with a substitute tool where possible, and commit the purchase only when the notification arrives.
For club education committees building loaner tool kits or sourcing safety gear ahead of a hands-on class, the alert system offers a similar kind of relief. Organizers can register for the specific items on their shopping list and act the moment inventory clears, rather than discovering a restock days after units have already moved.
Raines also identified an indirect benefit for the store itself: concentrated alert sign-ups on particular items create a visible demand signal that can help guide restocking priorities over time, which could gradually reduce the frequency of the stockouts the feature was built to address.
The Woodturning Tool Store carries lathes, turning tools, abrasives, finishes, and accessories including the house line, Tod Raines Tools. The back-in-stock alert system is now active across the full catalog.
