Melissa Turner is turning a modest tourism grant into a countywide wellness showcase, and Butler County Yoga Fest will be her test case. The first event is set for Friday, May 15, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Zelienople Community Park, 402 E. Beaver Street, with yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, sound baths, speakers, vendors and other movement-based activities built around one clear idea: make yoga feel bigger than a single studio class.

Turner, who owns Studio Z Yoga and Studio Z Cycle, used a $5,000 Experience Butler County grant she received last year to help cover festival costs. Experience Butler County says the grant program is meant to enhance the tourism experience and increase overnight stays in Butler County, and that the awards are given annually on merit by a review committee and administered by the organization’s board and president. In other words, the festival is being framed not just as a community gathering, but as a way to keep visitors in the county longer and connect them to local businesses.

The event listing names Studio Z Yoga, Salt Power Yoga, The Collective Wellness Studio and Shakti Yoga & Pilates as participating studios, a lineup that gives the festival a broader footprint than a typical studio open house. Experience Butler County describes the gathering as a 21-plus event bringing together movement, mindfulness, local vendors and good energy. Shakti Yoga & Pilates says the day will also include classes, workshops, food and beverage trucks, wellness vendors, a sauna and a cold plunge, signaling an experience designed to appeal to both seasoned practitioners and newcomers curious about trying more than one style in a single afternoon.

That mix matters for the county’s business side as much as for its yoga scene. Experience Butler County’s 2025 grant announcement said it awarded 15 grants totaling nearly $50,000, including a Butler County Yoga festival project, showing this event fits a wider tourism strategy rather than a one-off experiment. Turner has said she wants the festival to grow into something annual and eventually become a full-day affair, which would make it a recurring anchor for local studios, wellness vendors and visitors looking for a reason to spend time in Zelienople. Melissa Turner’s listing with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher adds another layer of credibility to the effort as she tries to build a signature event for Butler County.
