The ring had the kind of scale that can pull focus from a couture gown, and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Georgina Rodríguez made sure it did. Her teal, corseted Ludovic de Saint Sernin look was already a statement, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s diamond sat at the center of the evening’s attention, flashing against sheer fabric and hand-embroidered detail like the real headline of the red carpet.

Rodríguez arrived at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4 in a custom gown with a matching sheer veil, hand-embroidered lace flowers, and Chopard jewelry. She described the look as a tribute to the Virgin of Fátima, and the symbolism ran deep: hidden Spanish phrases were embroidered near her heart, and a custom rosary in white gold, diamonds, and pearls completed the spiritual frame. The theme, Costume Art, invited exaggeration, but Rodríguez gave it a more intimate charge, turning devotion into a couture narrative.

The ring amplified that effect. The couple has kept the exact engagement-ring details private, even as rumors about its value have climbed, with PEOPLE reporting that specialists have suggested it could exceed $2 million. Chopard later identified the Met Gala jewel as a 20-carat D-flawless cushion-cut diamond set in 18k white Fairmined gold, a specification that immediately gives the piece more substance than the usual celebrity-ring mystery. Cushion cuts read softer than the hard geometry of emerald or princess cuts, but at 20 carats, softness is relative. This was a stone built to dominate a room.

That kind of presence fits the arc of Rodríguez and Ronaldo’s relationship. They announced their engagement in August 2025 after more than eight years together, and they first went public in January 2017. Rodríguez had already revealed the ring on a red carpet in September 2025, but the Met Gala gave it a grander stage, one with the scale and scrutiny to make the diamond feel almost architectural.

It was also Rodríguez’s second Met Gala appearance, following her debut in 2025, and this one landed in the middle of a broader red-carpet shift toward veils and devotion-themed dressing. But no amount of theme reading could compete with the ring itself. In a night built on fashion theater, Rodríguez wore the kind of diamond that does not simply accessorize a look. It redraws the frame around it.
