Robin Callahan Designs wins INSTORE award for interchangeable Aria ring
Robin Callahan Designs’ Aria ring won INSTORE’s Ring Over $5K prize with a swap-in center that turns one jewel into two distinct looks.

Personalization has moved well beyond initials and engraving. Robin Callahan Designs’ Aria Interchangeable ring won first place in the Ring Over $5,000 category at the 11th annual INSTORE Design Awards 2026, and its appeal is as practical as it is luxurious: one high-ticket ring, two gemstone personalities, and a look that can change with the moment.
The winning design was made in 14K white gold and set with G-H-color, V-S-clarity diamonds totaling 5.6 carats, plus a 5.75-carat green oval-shaped chrysoprase and a 5.20-carat blue oval-shaped chalcedony. INSTORE listed the ring at $46,000, a price point that puts it firmly in statement-jewelry territory while making the modular concept feel especially compelling. Instead of commissioning a single fixed composition, the wearer can move between moods and occasions with a swap-in center that keeps the piece from feeling static.

That flexibility was exactly what resonated with the judges. Sarah York called the ring “such a unique and creative design,” while praising its craftsmanship. Daniela Balzano singled out the interchangeable center, saying it delivered versatility without compromising integrity. Tracey Ellison noted that the ring remained beautiful and eye-catching no matter which way it was worn. In a market where buyers increasingly want jewelry to do more than sit in a box, that kind of technical elegance matters. The strongest personalization is not decorative; it is structural.
The win came in a competition that drew 229 entries, matching last year’s total, and colored gemstones were described as hotter than ever. INSTORE also added a new Small Batch Colored Gemstone category for makers with five or fewer employees, a signal that the appetite for distinctive color and artisanal production is broadening, not narrowing. The awards were decided through blind judging by six retailers and three media personalities, with hundreds of retailers voting online for Retailer’s Choice honors.

Robin Callahan, who describes herself as a custom jewelry designer, metalsmith and lapidary artist, has built Robin Callahan Designs around one-of-a-kind, heirloom-worthy work. The company sources gem rough directly from mines and specialty dealers, then custom-cuts stones or works with top lapidary artists to facet and carve them. Aria fits that philosophy neatly: it is less a single ring than a changing vocabulary of color, craftsmanship and personal use, which is exactly why modular fine jewelry now feels less like a novelty than a smarter way to buy.
