Jisoo debuts at Met Gala in 1905 Cartier necklace and archival jewels
Jisoo’s Met Gala debut paired a pink Dior gown with a Cartier choker from around 1905, turning archival jewelry into the night’s sharpest modern statement.

Jisoo turned her Met Gala debut into a lesson in how archival Cartier still reads as current. The BLACKPINK singer stepped out in a pink Dior look with a Cartier Collection necklace from around 1905, a choker that gave her red-carpet debut the kind of provenance that cannot be faked, only worn.
The styling was exacting. Vogue Singapore described Jonathan Anderson’s Dior gown as a strapless, backless column in gazar, embroidered with a garden scene and floral bouquets, while Harper’s Bazaar Australia identified the jewels more specifically as a Cartier Collection choker necklace from circa 1905 in platinum, diamonds and velvet, worn on pink velvet, plus Cartier Collection Foliate ear clips from 1948. That mix of materials matters. Platinum and diamonds create brightness and structure; velvet softens the edge and anchors the choker against skin, a signature move in early Cartier design that still photographs with force under modern flash.
What makes the necklace feel contemporary is its silhouette. The choker sits close to the throat, drawing the eye upward and leaving room for the collarbone and shoulders to do the work. On Jisoo, that line played against the clean column of Anderson’s dress, a contrast that made the 1905 piece look less like a museum object and more like the most deliberate part of the outfit. The Foliate ear clips added a second archival note, keeping the look within Cartier’s decorative language rather than letting the necklace stand alone as nostalgia.

That language is part of Cartier’s larger archive strategy. The maison created the Cartier Collection in 1983, and it now holds more than 3,000 pieces spanning from the earliest years of the house to the early 2000s. Cartier says those archives document each creation from design to marketing, which is why a circa-1905 jewel can still function as living luxury instead of dead history. The house has spent decades teaching clients and museums to read its past as style capital.
The setting made the choice sharper. The 2026 Met Gala took place on Monday, May 4, in support of The Met’s spring 2026 Costume Art exhibition, which opens to the public on May 10 and runs through January 10, 2027. The Met set the dress code as “Fashion is Art,” and the Costume Institute says the gala remains its primary source of annual funding. Jisoo’s appearance fit that premise cleanly: a century-old Cartier choker, a Dior dress calibrated to the theme, and a red-carpet debut that placed archival jewelry squarely at the center of the night.

The moment carried extra pop-culture weight too. The Hollywood Reporter noted that 2026 marked the first time all four BLACKPINK members attended the Met Gala in the same year, with Lisa on the host committee and Jennie and Rosé joining Jisoo on the carpet. But the detail likely to linger is the necklace itself, because it offered a practical lesson in how to spot Belle Époque and Edwardian Cartier in the wild: close-fitting shape, precious-metal setting, disciplined symmetry, and the kind of velvet-backed restraint that makes a 1905 choker feel newly sharp in 2026.
