Adams County Deputies Free Trapped Puppy After Oak Tree Crushes Car

A large oak tree fell onto a parked vehicle in the yard of a residence on the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street early Sunday, trapping a puppy named Raider underneath the car and prompting a middle-of-the-night rescue by Adams County Sheriff's Office deputies.

The 911 call came in at approximately 12:35 a.m. When deputies arrived, they found the oak had crushed the parked vehicle, which was disabled and unoccupied. The caller reported that Raider had become trapped beneath the car under the weight of the fallen tree pressing down on top of it.

Corporal Willie Stroud and Deputy James Floyd worked the scene and freed Raider at approximately 1:43 a.m., about an hour and eight minutes after the initial call. The puppy did not appear to suffer any serious injuries, and no injuries to any individuals were reported.

The incident unfolded against a backdrop of storm-related hazards that have struck the Natchez area in recent days. Related incidents in Adams County have included vehicles striking downed trees on Steam Plant Road and Foster Mound Road, and some local roads remained blocked by fallen trees and downed power lines.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office used the rescue as an opportunity to caution the public, reminding residents to remain careful following severe weather because falling trees and debris pose dangers to both people and property.
