Adams County schools open kindergarten boot camp enrollment, June 5 deadline

Parents with incoming kindergartners in the Adams County Ohio Valley School District had a short window to secure one of the limited spots in Kindergarten Boot Camp 2026, a readiness program built around the first days of school. Applications were due June 5, and the district handled registration online for children entering kindergarten this fall.

The district said the boot camp would be held in each elementary building, a setup that gives children an early look at the campus they will actually attend. That matters in Adams County, where the jump into kindergarten can feel bigger when a child is moving into a new building, new routines and a new daily schedule all at once.

The district’s three elementary schools are West Union Elementary School at 555 Lloyd Rd in West Union, Peebles Elementary School at 700 Peebles Indian Dr in Peebles, and North Adams Elementary School at 2295 Moores Rd in Seaman. By placing the boot camp in each of those buildings, the district tied the program directly to the local school communities families already know.

For parents, the timing left little room to wait. The district said space was limited, and families who did not submit applications by June 5 were outside the sign-up window for the 2026 session. The online form was the only registration method listed, making the deadline the key step for anyone hoping to take part.

The boot camp fits into a broader enrollment process already in place across the district. Ohio Department of Education and Workforce guidance says families may enroll an age-eligible child in kindergarten starting at age five, and the state’s kindergarten statute was updated effective March 20, 2026. For Adams County families, the boot camp was one more step in that transition, aimed at helping young children and their parents move into school with fewer surprises and a stronger start.
