Older Adams Countians will get a free day of food, music and services at The Willow Event Center in Winchester when Adams County Senior Citizens Day returns Thursday, May 14. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the event begins at 10, with this year’s Sock Hop theme setting the tone for a gathering that will include vendors, free marketing items, lunch and entertainment.

The event is aimed at seniors and the people who help support them, and it is being presented as more than a social outing. In a county where long drives and limited access can make routine help harder to find, a one-stop event like this can put information, benefits and community connections in the same room.

The senior council update also points to two more dates that matter for older residents trying to manage health and legal planning. Senior Walk “N” Talk will be held June 2 at Adams Lake State Park, where Amber Cupp from OSHIIP will discuss Medicare information. That could help seniors sort through coverage choices, compare options and better understand the decisions that affect prescription costs and doctor access.

A free Wills Clinic will follow on May 20 at the Senior Citizens office, with Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio offering help with simple wills, durable powers of attorney, health care directives and transfer-on-death affidavits for real estate. For families, that can remove confusion later by making medical and property wishes clear before a crisis hits.

The update also reminds eligible Ohioans age 60 and older that enrollment for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program opened April 22. The program provides $50 that can be spent on fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and unprocessed honey, either digitally or on a physical card. The county notice says income guidelines, an enrollment deadline and card delivery rules apply, making the program another practical way to stretch food budgets while supporting healthier diets.
