Adams County Seniors Invited to Walk, Talk and Connect at Adams Lake
Melissa Young of Hospice of Hope will lead Adams County's first Senior Walk "N" Talk at Adams Lake on May 5, targeting the isolation and service gaps that compound for rural seniors.

Melissa Young of Hospice of Hope will lead Adams County's inaugural Senior Walk "N" Talk at Adams Lake State Park on May 5, placing end-of-life care resources, aging-services navigation and community-health information directly in reach of rural seniors who organizers say routinely struggle to find them.
The Adams County Senior Citizens Council is coordinating the hour-long event, scheduled for 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the park on State Route 41 in West Union. The walk follows the park's flat, 0.75-mile accessible perimeter path, keeping physical demands low enough for seniors using mobility aids or recovering from health setbacks to participate alongside more active neighbors.
The program is aimed at a gap that compounds in rural counties. Aging residents in Adams County can face long drives to reach services in West Union, limited transportation options and chronic-disease risks that worsen without early intervention. The Ohio Department of Aging recently issued an advisory warning older residents about a surge in scam calls, underscoring how hard official health information works to reach isolated seniors without trusted, in-person contact. Walk "N" Talk places Hospice of Hope staff, aging-services navigators and service representatives at a setting seniors are already likely to visit, rather than asking older adults to travel to a clinic or county office.

May 5 is planned as the first in a series of outreach walks. The Senior Citizens Council intends to track attendance and measure whether participants connect with or enroll in available services, using those figures to shape future events. Seniors, caregivers and family members are all encouraged to attend.
The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Adams Lake State Park, 14633 State Route 41, West Union. Entry to the park is free. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for early-May weather; the route stays on the park's accessible lakeside path. Bring any needed mobility aids.
