Paul Emil Scott, 85, a West Union-born certified public accountant whose four decades of service to Adams County families and businesses made him one of the community's most recognizable professional figures, was buried Tuesday at West Union Cemetery following services at Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home.

Visitation began at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home, 216 W. Mulberry St., West Union, with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. Clarence Abbott officiated.

Scott is survived by his daughter, Dr. Suzy Kraemer, and her husband, Dr. Tom Kraemer, of Roanoke, Virginia; his son, Bobby Scott of West Union; grandsons Patrick Kraemer of Jackson, Wyoming, and Christopher Kraemer of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother, Robert Anderson, and sister, Michelle Hafner, both of Cincinnati. The family also extended special thanks to Trey Wilson of Decatur, Ohio, whose friendship and assistance with transportation and daily tasks in Paul's later years meant a great deal to the family.

Scott passed away Monday, March 23, 2026, having spent the final chapter of his life in the same Adams County village where he was born and raised. Born to Marie (Haag) and Robert Scott, he graduated from West Union High School in 1958, where he played basketball and met his future wife, Linda Roush. Both enrolled at Miami University in Oxford; he earned his accounting degree in 1962 and they married that June, beginning a partnership that lasted 63 years. He was preceded in death by Linda, who died in September 2025.

Scott launched his CPA career at Price Waterhouse, with postings in Cleveland, Tokyo, and Richmond, Virginia, before making the deliberate choice to come home. He opened his own accounting practice in West Union in 1977 and, over the next four decades, built a reputation across Adams County for professional integrity. In a county where many residents work in manufacturing, retail, and healthcare, a trusted local accountant who stayed put and put down roots carries real weight.
