West Union Resident Virginia F. Tolle Dies at 99; Funeral Services Planned

Virginia F. Tolle, 99, of West Union, Ohio, died Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Adams County Hospice Care Unit in Seaman. Visitation is scheduled from 11 AM until 1 PM Thursday, February, 19, 2026 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union, with a 1 PM funeral service the same day at the funeral home; Pastor John Cole will officiate and interment will follow Thursday at West Union Cemetery. Lafferty Funeral Home Incorporated is serving the family.

Tolle was born March 31, 1926, in Tiffin Township in Adams County to William J. Osman and Lillian (Ralston) Osman. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, June R. Tolle. According to the obituary posted by Lafferty Funeral Home and noted in The People’s Defender on Feb. 16, 2026, Virginia was a 1943 graduate of West Union High School and was described as a lifelong Adams County resident.

Her work history in the local economy included roles across education, manufacturing, county government and retail food service. The obituary lists her as a secretary at the former Jefferson School in Blue Creek, an assembly worker at the former U.S. Shoe Company in West Union, a former deputy clerk in the Adams County Clerk of Courts - Title Department, and a former baker at Prather's I.G.A. Deli in West Union for 10 years. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Lynx for 52 years and a member of the American Legion, Young-Moore Post 100 - Ladies Auxillary in West Union.

Tolle is survived by her son Naman (Eddyth) Tolle of West Union; a granddaughter, Jane (Charlie) Shoemaker of Maysville, Kentucky; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Shoemaker and John Shoemaker, as well as "many nieces and nephews," the obituary states. Condolences posted on the funeral home page include Christopher Beam, Feb 17, 2026: "So sorry to hear of your mothers passing Naman. She was a wonderful lady." Elaine Lafferty posted Feb 17, 2026: "Sincere sympathy to all of Virginia's family. She was a lovely lady."
