Burlington police said a late-night stop near Alamance Crossing turned into a major drug and weapons case after officers found drugs and firearms in plain view inside a parked vehicle at 3171 Garden Road.

Officers came upon the vehicle at about 12:58 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, and found four people inside, according to the Burlington Police Department. Police said Camden Edward Arquiett then ran on foot and discarded a fully automatic firearm described as a machine gun as he tried to get away.

A Burlington police drone located Arquiett after the foot chase, and an Alamance County Sheriff’s Office K9 helped track him before he surrendered to the K9 team, police said. The scene unfolded in a heavily traveled part of Burlington near the Alamance Crossing shopping area, where late-night police activity can spill into nearby parking lots, roads and businesses.

A search of the vehicle turned up more than 40 pounds of marijuana, THC vape products, THC wax and three additional firearms, according to police. The size of the seizure and the presence of multiple guns pushed the case far beyond a routine traffic stop, with investigators treating it as a narcotics-and-weapons arrest tied to trafficking activity.

All four defendants were reported to be from Charlotte. Millard Joseph Wood IV was charged with three counts of trafficking in marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, trafficking in opium, listed as codeine, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling, carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids. He was held without bond.

Arquiett, 20, was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, felony carrying a concealed weapon, trafficking marijuana possession, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, resisting a public official and trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids. He also was held without bond.

Braelyn Christopher Kline was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, trafficking in marijuana possession, carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids. Ju’Quan Sean Davidson was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, trafficking in marijuana possession, felony carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids. Both were held without bond.

Alamance County Crime Stoppers reposted the police release and asked for anonymous tips as the case moved into the court system. The arrests added another high-profile example of how Burlington officers continue to encounter drugs and guns together in ordinary public spaces.
