Kernodle Clinic offered free sports physicals at SouthEast Alamance High School on Tuesday afternoon, giving Alamance-Burlington School System student-athletes one more chance to clear a key requirement for school sports without paying out of pocket.

The clinic ran from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and marked the final stop in ABSS Athletics’ current round of free physicals. District materials said the clinics were open to all rising and current middle school and high school students in the district, not just those enrolled at SouthEast. ABSS has also said the physicals remain valid for 395 days, making the visit useful for athletes trying to stay eligible across more than one season.

Students still had to bring the right paperwork. ABSS instructed families to upload the required information in DragonFly and to arrive with the completed Duke medical waiver and physical form. Those forms are part of the district’s athletics clearance process, which helps students meet participation requirements before stepping onto the field, court or track.

SouthEast was one of seven ABSS high school stops in this year’s free-physical series. Earlier clinics were held at Williams, Western, Cummings, Eastern, Graham and Southern high schools, according to district athletics materials. ABSS Athletics said the effort fits its mission to support student-athletes through academic achievement, athletic growth, social development and community engagement.

Kernodle Clinic, a Duke Health practice based in Burlington, describes itself as a multi-specialty practice serving Burlington and Alamance County. Among its specialties are orthopedics and sports medicine, services that connect directly to the needs of young athletes preparing for a new school year or trying to stay current on sports clearance.

ABSS athletics also credited Kernodle Clinic staff members Tabitha Henderson and Tracy Cheek for helping make the annual free-physical effort possible. For families in Alamance County, the SouthEast clinic was a practical end point to a districtwide service designed to remove one of the most immediate barriers to participation: the cost and hassle of getting a current sports physical on time.
