NCDOT to Install All-Way Stop Near Saxapahaw for Safety

The North Carolina Department of Transportation's Triad division is moving to install an all-way stop at the intersection of Lindley Mill Road and Moores Chapel Cemetery Road, a rural crossing near Saxapahaw in Alamance County, to improve safety.

The department describes all-way stops as a "proven, cost-effective safety measure designed to enhance intersection security and reduce the risk of serious crashes." NCDOT often targets intersections with high crash volumes or sight-distance problems, citing the need to prevent T-bone and high-speed accidents at locations where uncontrolled cross-traffic creates the greatest risk.

No specific calendar date was given in the NCDOT Triad announcement; the original notice indicated work would begin the following week. The scheduled installation is weather-dependent and subject to change.

The Saxapahaw-area project is part of a broader pattern of NCDOT intersection safety work across the state. In New Hanover County, NCDOT is converting two additional intersections to all-way stops: work began March 12 at Kerr Avenue and Farley Drive, with the Princess Place Drive and Barclay Hills Drive intersection scheduled for conversion starting March 16. Those projects involve the installation of new stop signs and updated pavement markings.

Drivers near Lindley Mill Road and Moores Chapel Cemetery Road are encouraged to exercise caution and remain alert for workers and new traffic patterns while the improvements are underway.
