Two Detained After Gunfire, Argument Near Bonnar Bridge Parkway in Burlington
A Burlington man fired a handgun into the air during a late-night argument on Kerr Street, leading to two arrests and a firearm seizure near Bonnar Bridge Parkway.

A handgun fired into the air during a late-night argument near Bonnar Bridge Parkway ended with two Kerr Street residents in handcuffs and the weapon seized, Burlington police said.
A Burlington officer heard the shots at approximately 11:23 p.m. on March 21 near 4210 Bonnar Bridge Parkway. As officers spread out to search the area, multiple 911 calls directed them to the intersection of Sapphire Road and Kerr Street. The two people they were looking for didn't get far: Claudio Amaro, 24, and Ileanellys Carrero, 20, both residents of 1282 Kerr St., tried to hide in the backyard of a nearby residence before officers located and detained them.
Investigators determined that Amaro fired a handgun into the air during an argument with Carrero. The firearm was recovered and seized at the scene.
Amaro was charged with discharging a firearm within city limits. Carrero was charged with assault on a government official. No further details about the nature of that charge, or the identity of the government official involved, were released by police. Both were transported to the Guilford County Jail, where a magistrate later released them on unsecured bonds.

Burlington police confirmed no officers were injured and no property damage was reported from the shooting.
The Burlington Police Department is asking anyone with additional information about the incident to call (336) 229-3500.
