Albany County youth camp pairs sports, safety outreach in Laramie
Albany County families can send teens ages 13-17 to a free June sports camp at the Laramie Rec Center, where games meet safety mentoring.
A free two-day sports camp will give Albany County teens ages 13 to 17 a place to stay active, build confidence and learn safety skills at the Laramie Community Recreation Center. The B. Ewing x SAFE Project camp is set for June 6-7, from noon to 2 p.m. each day, at 920 Boulder Dr. in Laramie.
The camp builds on the B. Ewing Scholarship and ties former University of Wyoming Hall of Famer Brandon Ewing to SAFE Project’s youth-focused prevention work. Organizers are positioning the program as more than a summer activity, describing it as a chance for young people to be “safe, seen, and supported” through hands-on community engagement and mentoring.
That makes the Laramie Community Recreation Center a natural setting. The city-run facility already offers youth activities and summer programs aimed at health, wellness and fun, and the June camp will add a safety and support component to that familiar mix. For families looking for structured programming during the summer gap, the event offers sports, supervision and a local connection in one place.
SAFE Project’s role reaches beyond the camp. The nonprofit says it supports survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking in Albany County, and it maintains a 24-hour crisis hotline at 307-745-3556. It also says it has offices in Laramie and on the University of Wyoming campus, giving the organization a presence in both the city and the university community.

The organization’s education and awareness work is aimed at prevention and a stronger community response. SAFE Project says it reaches students and residents across Albany County through presentations, tabling, brochures, newsletters and social media, part of an effort to increase protective factors for youth and help families connect with support before a crisis grows.
For parents and guardians, the event details are straightforward: the camp is free, open to youth ages 13 to 17, and scheduled for June 6-7 at 920 Boulder Dr. in Laramie. In a county where summer options can fill quickly, the partnership between Brandon Ewing and SAFE Project is turning a rec center into a place where sports and safety work side by side.
