Brady Michael Deming, 22, made his first appearance in Albany County Circuit Court on Wednesday after prosecutors charged him with aggravated assault and battery and possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent in an early-morning stabbing tied to Laramie’s bar scene.

The case moved into the formal criminal process at Albany County Circuit Court, 525 Grand Avenue, Room 400, where felony matters can begin with bail decisions and preliminary hearings before the case advances to district court. For Albany County, the stakes are not just about one arrest. They reach into downtown safety, where late-night violence can affect patrons, bartenders, nearby businesses and the officers sent to break up the scene.

According to the affidavit, police were called to the Ranger Bar just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The alleged victim, identified in court documents as C.W., had a puncture wound about a half-inch long on his right leg, just below a tourniquet. Officers described the wound as actively bleeding and consistent with a knife stab wound, and by the time they arrived, other patrons were carrying C.W. outside for medical treatment.

The affidavit also says Deming allegedly threatened a group of women earlier that same evening at Roxie’s Bar. A witness identified as M.D. told police Deming pulled a knife on her there before she later saw him again at the Ranger Bar, where she said C.W. was on the ground, Deming was on top of him, and C.W. had blood all over him.

Under Wyoming law, aggravated assault and battery includes causing or attempting to cause bodily injury with a deadly weapon. That legal definition is why a knife allegation can push a bar-fight case from a disorder call into a felony prosecution. Wyoming Judicial Branch rules give circuit courts authority to set bail and hold preliminary hearings in felony cases, while felony criminal cases are handled in district court.

The allegations have put fresh attention on the Ranger Bar area and the broader downtown nightlife corridor in Laramie, where alcohol, weapons and fast-moving disputes can quickly become a public safety problem. Deming remains presumed innocent, but the charges and affidavit show prosecutors and investigators believe the incident was serious enough to warrant felony treatment in Albany County.
