Rooted in Laramie Nonprofit Opens Annual Tree Sale, Planting Day Set for June

Rooted in Laramie, the volunteer-based nonprofit working to expand Laramie's urban forest, has opened its annual tree sale and scheduled planting day for June 14, when teams of volunteers will put 70 trees in the ground at homes throughout the city.

The announcement builds on momentum from last year's effort. On June 8, 2024, volunteers gathered first at Greenhill Cemetery, where they were assigned to crews before loading trees and supplies and fanning out to plant 65 trees at various homes across Laramie. The June 14 planting is expected to exceed that count, with 70 trees from the current sale queued up for installation.

Daniel Minton, chair of Rooted in Laramie, described the annual planting day as the payoff of months of behind-the-scenes work. "Planting day is the beautiful culmination of a year of planning and community engagement that results in new trees added to our community," Minton said. "Seeing the smiles of volunteers enjoying the camaraderie and residents welcoming their new trees makes planting day memorable every year."

The organization is actively recruiting volunteers for June 14, and no prior tree-planting experience is required. Each crew will be led by someone with hands-on knowledge who will walk volunteers through the full process: how wide and deep to dig holes, how to address problems like root-binding, and how to properly stake and mulch a newly planted tree.
