UnionFest 2026 returns to UW with music, food, community fun
Free all-day UnionFest returns to Prexy’s Pasture on May 8 with walking tacos, games and live music from Box of Rocks, The Deslondes and The Burroughs.

Prexy’s Pasture will turn into UW’s spring gathering spot Friday, May 8, when UnionFest 2026 brings a free, all-day lineup of food, games and live music to campus. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is open to both University of Wyoming students and the Laramie community, giving Albany County a one-day chance to step onto campus for one of the year’s most visible end-of-semester traditions.
The Center for Student Involvement & Leadership is organizing the festival, which UW says is meant to send the academic year out on a celebratory note. This year’s theme is “laid back good vibes,” with sunglasses encouraged, and lunch starts at 11 a.m. with walking tacos. Along with food, the day will feature yard games, table games and inflatables, all designed to keep the pace loose and social from late morning into the evening.

Live music begins at 4 p.m., when Box of Rocks, The Deslondes and The Burroughs are scheduled to take the stage. The format makes UnionFest more than a concert stop: families can come earlier for food and activities, students can use it as a break between classes and finals prep, and local residents have a free reason to spend part of the day at one of the best-known spots on campus.
UW’s own campus language helps explain why the event lands where it does. The university describes the Wyoming Union as the central hub for campus life, and says the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership is housed there. That positioning, along with the Office of Community Engagement’s emphasis on service to Wyoming and engagement with the state, fits a festival that is explicitly aimed beyond the student body and into the wider town-gown community.
UnionFest has become a repeat spring fixture at UW. The university held versions of it in 2022, 2023 and 2024, with free food on Simpson Plaza in 2022, Ian Munsick headlining in 2023 and free music and food again in 2024. This year’s move to Prexy’s Pasture keeps the focus on a familiar campus landmark while giving Laramie another public, free gathering to mark the start of May and the close of the school year.
