The University of Wyoming added Christian Taylor as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on December 19, bringing a coach with 16 years of collegiate experience and two seasons in the National Football League to Laramie. Taylor arrived after two seasons on the Buffalo Bills staff, serving as a defensive quality control coach in 2024 and this season as an offensive advisor and defensive assistant. He helped the Bills to another AFC East Championship and an AFC Championship appearance, and he will continue working with Buffalo while beginning his role at Wyoming until the Bills season concludes.

Taylor’s collegiate resume includes stops at William and Mary, San Diego, San Diego State and Michigan among others, and a record of program building that includes multiple NCAA Playoff appearances and a run to the FCS semifinals. He has mentored 11 All Americans, four Walter Payton Award finalists and 24 all conference standouts, with at least one first team all league selection each year. Coach Jay Sawvel highlighted Taylor’s versatility, saying, "Christian Taylor has a great football mind and has had success at two different schools as an offensive coordinator and has great experience in the National Football League." Sawvel added, "He has coached on both sides of the ball and what is impressive is how he utilizes his players and his diversity in the run game as those are areas where we feel we need to make great improvements in the program."

For Albany County residents the hire matters beyond wins and losses. University of Wyoming football is a social and economic anchor for Laramie, supporting local businesses on game days and providing outreach opportunities that feed into youth sports, physical activity and mental health supports. Taylor signaled an openness to community engagement, saying, "My family and I are ready to get to Wyoming and get involved in the community and explore this beautiful state." He added, "I’m excited to be a part of the culture that Wyoming Football has developed, as it is truly a great fit." Local youth programs may see benefits from clinics and mentoring, and improvements in the run game and player development could increase on field success that boosts attendance and related economic activity.

As the program implements changes, public health stakeholders and community organizers can look for opportunities to partner with the athletic department on injury prevention, equitable access to youth programming and mental health resources for student athletes. Taylor’s hire signals a strategic push on the field, and it represents a moment for Albany County to consider how collegiate athletics can support broader community wellbeing and social equity.
