Chinle Wildcats beat Yuma Catholic 58-53, advance to 3A quarterfinals

Chinle High School advanced in the AIA Class 3A state tournament with a 58-53 home playoff victory over Yuma Catholic at the Wildcat Den in Chinle on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026. The win improved Chinle’s record to 24-6, dropped Yuma Catholic to 18-8, and ended the Shamrocks’ eight-game winning streak.

The game proved tense throughout, with Yuma Catholic mounting a second-half comeback attempt that cut into Chinle’s lead late in the fourth quarter. Chinle withstood that rally and held a five-point margin at the final buzzer to secure the victory and move into the quarterfinal round of the 3A bracket.

The Wildcats’ win continued a recent trend in the head-to-head series with Yuma Catholic; Chinle has now beaten the Shamrocks three straight times.
