Chinle Wildcats Set to Face Ganado Hornets in Softball Showdown
Chinle's varsity softball team traveled to Ganado High School on March 25 for a 3A North region matchup against the Hornets, one day after the Wildcats defeated Alchesay 21-9.

The Chinle Wildcats varsity girls softball team made the trip to Ganado High School on Tuesday for a 1:00 p.m. region game against the Ganado Hornets, a key 3A North contest with the regular season entering its final stretch.
The matchup at Ganado High School was listed as a region game on the Wildcats' schedule, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. The game comes at a pivotal stretch of the season, with both Chinle and Ganado among the programs slated to compete in the 3A North Tournament hosted by Page High School later in April.
Chinle entered the week with an overall record of 1-1 and a 0-1 mark in region play, sitting tied for second in the 3A North. The Wildcats' lone region loss came against Monument Valley, a narrow 8-9 defeat on March 9. Their standout result of the young season was a 21-9 win over Alchesay on March 4.
The Ganado game is not the Wildcats' first look at the Hornets this year. A prior meeting between Chinle and Ganado has already taken place this season, making Tuesday's region contest a potential rematch with standings implications.
Chinle is also preparing to host the Canyon De Chelly Invitational on March 27 and 28, bringing together Many Farms, Valley (Sanders), Monument Valley, and other programs to Chinle High School and Chinle Junior High. The back-to-back scheduling, a road region game Tuesday followed by hosting a multi-team invitational days later, underscores how compressed the spring calendar is for the Wildcats.
Chinle High School is a public school in Chinle, an unincorporated area of Apache County, and its softball program competes under the Arizona Interscholastic Association's 3A classification. The school competes in the 3A North division under the black, Vegas gold, and white colors of the Wildcats.
With the 3A North Tournament in Page scheduled for late April, every region game between now and then carries direct seeding weight. The Wildcats' standing in the conference at season's end will determine how favorable a bracket position they carry into the postseason.
