Autauga County announces Memorial Day, Jefferson Davis’ Birthday closures
Autauga County posted back-to-back closures for Memorial Day and Jefferson Davis’ Birthday, warning residents to delay courthouse, tag and probate trips.

Autauga County has posted two holiday closures that will shut down county offices on Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day, and again on Monday, June 1, for Jefferson Davis’ Birthday.
The notices matter most for residents who handle business in person at county offices in Prattville and around Autauga County. Court-related paperwork, probate matters, revenue transactions, records requests, tag renewals and other time-sensitive errands will have to wait until offices reopen on the next business day.
The county’s online calendar lists “Autauga County Government Offices Closed” on both dates, and the probate office has separately said it will be closed for Jefferson Davis’ Birthday. The Autauga County Probate Office normally operates at 176 W 5th Street in Prattville, with weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For families, attorneys and contractors, the timing creates two separate gaps in county service just one week apart. Memorial Day is a federal holiday, and Jefferson Davis’ Birthday is a state-observed holiday in Alabama. The state’s 2026 holiday calendar lists both Monday, May 25, and Monday, June 1, as official closures, and Alabama law identifies Jefferson Davis’ birthday as a state holiday observed on the first Monday in June.
That means residents who need a probate filing, a title matter, or another county transaction should not wait until the day of the closure to make the trip. Autauga County has said in other holiday notices that it follows the State Holidays calendar, and the county’s own calendar also showed a prior government office closure on April 27.
Jefferson Davis was born June 3, 1808, but Alabama observes the holiday on the first Monday in June. In practical terms, the June 1 closure falls before many residents expect it, making the county’s advance notice especially useful for anyone trying to avoid a missed deadline or an unnecessary drive to Prattville.
