Autauga County gasoline average stays below $4 as Alabama prices climb
Autauga County stayed under $4 a gallon at $3.98, even as Alabama climbed past $4 and nearby Montgomery, Perry and Wilcox all topped it.

Autauga County drivers were still paying less than $4 for regular gasoline, even as prices climbed above that mark across Alabama. The county average came in at $3.98 in the regional snapshot, keeping Autauga one of only two counties in the area still below $4, alongside Marengo County at $3.93.
That local break from the statewide trend matters in a county where many residents commute between Prattville, Millbrook and Montgomery. Autauga County had an estimated population of 61,920 as of July 1, 2025, and the average commute time was about 27.9 minutes. Most people drove alone to work, which means even a few cents at the pump can ripple through school drop-offs, work trips, delivery routes and household budgets.

The broader market picture was moving in the wrong direction. Alabama regular gasoline was listed at $4.100 on May 7, while the national average was $4.558. The U.S. average had risen 25 cents for the second straight week and was at its highest level since 2022, when it peaked at $5.01 a gallon. In Alabama, the state average had been $3.867 a week earlier and $3.858 a month earlier, showing how fast the climb happened. The state’s highest recorded average regular gasoline price remains $4.632, set on June 14, 2022.

Autauga’s number also looked better than several nearby counties. Montgomery County averaged $4.04, while Perry County was at $4.26 and Wilcox County at $4.23. For drivers heading through the River Region, Marengo County offered the lowest average in the local snapshot at $3.93, with Autauga just behind it. That gap may look small on paper, but for families filling up more than once a week, it adds up quickly.
The price pressure was tied to crude oil market strain and lower gasoline inventories, adding more strain to local businesses and workers who depend on vehicle travel. The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce says it serves the Prattville region and works to strengthen the local economy, and fuel costs remain part of that equation. For Autauga County, the takeaway was clear: gas was still cheaper than in much of the region, but the county was not escaping the statewide climb.
