Autauga County warns residents of garbage pickup day changes May 4
Meridian Waste customers in Autauga County may have a new trash day starting May 4. Residents are being told to roll carts out by 5 a.m. and call the company if service is missed.

Households served by Meridian Waste in Autauga County may need to change their trash routine starting May 4, and the county is warning residents now so carts do not sit out on the wrong day. Autauga County said the shift could affect customers across the county, where weekly household trash collection is mandatory for homes that do not receive municipal pickup.
The county’s solid-waste rules say carts should be placed curbside by 5:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day, and waste should be bagged and tied before pickup. Residents with service questions can call Meridian Waste at 1-866-440-3983, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The county also identifies Hoyt Painter as the solid-waste officer, giving residents a local contact tied to the program.
The May 4 notice follows earlier schedule changes. On March 15, 2025, Autauga County said some Meridian Waste pickup days would change to create a more balanced distribution of pickups throughout the county. County officials also said Meridian Waste’s acquisition of Arrow Disposal Service, Inc. took effect Sept. 1, 2024, and that customers would see no immediate service impact, including no change in phone number. The new notice suggests another route-level adjustment rather than a one-time exception.
That matters because garbage pickup has already been a sore point. In August 2025, Autauga County commissioners met with Meridian Waste leaders after residents complained about missed pickups and delays replacing damaged or missing cans. Meridian Waste said route training issues, truck fires and new driver training had contributed to those problems. Against that backdrop, the county’s latest warning is aimed at keeping residents from being caught off guard when the new schedule starts.
The practical impact is straightforward: people who have grown used to setting carts out on one weekday may need to reset alarms, plan around work trips or weekend travel, and watch for their updated pickup day after May 4. In nearby St. Clair County, a Meridian Waste notice told residents to check the sticker on their trash can for the updated pickup day, a reminder that route changes can arrive through county notices, cart labels or direct service updates rather than a one-size-fits-all announcement.
