Autauga County deputies are asking residents to watch for Devontay Stanley Jones, 27, a wanted man tied to trafficking marijuana, attempting to elude and pending federal charges, after investigators said he was last seen near Exit 181 on the west side of Interstate 65, just north of Prattville. Authorities say Jones should be considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who spots him should call 334-215-7867 or 1-833-251-7867, or text 215stop to 738477 for an anonymous tip form.

The original arrest warrant was for certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, a charge that pushed the case beyond a routine local warrant check. CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for information on Jones’ whereabouts, adding another layer of urgency to a search that now involves the United States Marshals Service, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, the Prattville Police Department, the Millbrook Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Jones was last seen Thursday, May 7, wearing a dark green undershirt, a dark-colored outer shirt and camouflage pants. He was traveling on foot, and the reported sighting near Exit 181 has kept the search focused on the Prattville side of the county’s busy I-65 corridor. Residents should not try to approach him if they see him; investigators want immediate tips instead.

The warning matters well beyond Prattville city limits. The Autauga County Sheriff’s Office is based at 162 West Fourth Street in Prattville and serves the county’s unincorporated communities, including Autaugaville and Billingsley, along with Pine Level, Marbury, Booth, White City, Jones, Evergreen, Kingston, Pentecost, Mulberry and Independence. That makes the alert relevant across a wide swath of roads, neighborhoods and rural stretches where deputies cover long distances.

Autauga County’s population estimate reached 61,920 on July 1, 2025, up from 58,805 in the 2020 census, a sign of how many people could encounter the warning across a county that has grown while still relying on a relatively small number of patrol and investigative units. Sheriff Mark Harrell, sworn in on Jan. 16, 2023 after Gov. Kay Ivey appointed him to complete Joe Sedinger’s term, is now overseeing a search that has drawn regional and federal partners into the case.
