Prattville police took Devontay Stanley Jones into custody on Friday morning, ending a four-day search that had put a busy stretch of north Prattville under watch. Jones, 27, was found on Old Ridge Road near Central Alabama Community College at about 9:30 a.m., after officers had last seen him Thursday on the west side of Interstate 65 at Exit 181, just north of the city.

The arrest capped a coordinated effort that stretched across city, county, state and federal law enforcement. Prattville police worked with the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Marshals Service, Central Alabama Community College campus police and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force as the search moved through one of the county’s most recognizable transportation corridors. CrimeStoppers also offered a reward for information on Jones’ whereabouts while officers described him as armed and dangerous.

Jones had been wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on warrants tied to certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, weapon offenses, eluding law enforcement and probation violations. Additional charges linked to the search included trafficking marijuana and attempting to elude, and he also faced pending federal charges. His last known address was in Birmingham, adding to the concern that he could move quickly between counties while evading capture.

Prattville police said Jones would be evaluated by medics from the Prattville Fire Department before transport, a standard step that underscores how arrest operations can involve more than just the initial takedown. No injuries were reported during the capture, and the search ended without a prolonged standoff near the college campus or the interstate corridor that many Autauga County residents use every day.

The case also highlighted the scale of the local response. The Prattville Police Department says it has 100 sworn officers, six full-time employees and 19 part-time support personnel. In Autauga County, where the sheriff’s office covers the unincorporated communities of Pine Level, Marbury, Booth, White City, Jones, Evergreen, Kingston, Pentecost, Mulberry and Independence, the Jones arrest showed how quickly a fast-moving suspect can draw in agencies from across the region when public safety crosses jurisdictional lines.
