Prattville Joins Innovate Alabama Network, Boosting Entrepreneurship and Workforce Development
Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr. landed Prattville a state economic-development designation that could help residents stop commuting to Montgomery for work.

Prattville earned a spot in the Innovate Alabama Network on April 7, positioning the city to tap coordinated state-level programming, technical assistance and potential grant funding aimed at building an entrepreneurship ecosystem close to home.
Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr., who led the application effort alongside city economic-development staff, called the designation "an exciting milestone" and said Prattville intends to make itself a more attractive destination for entrepreneurs and what he described as "industry-aligned economic growth."
The Innovate Alabama Network connects cities, chambers of commerce, colleges and workforce partners to state resources targeting three areas where Prattville has identified gaps: small-business incubation, college-to-career pathways and industry-specific talent pipelines. City officials said initial pipeline efforts will center on manufacturing, logistics and health care, sectors that align with the employment base already clustered in and around Autauga County.
The designation carries no guaranteed funding package on its own, but it opens access to marketing support, technical assistance for incubator programs and a statewide partner network that can help Prattville compete for grants it might otherwise miss. Officials said they plan to use the affiliation to strengthen public-private partnerships and promote local facilities capable of hosting incubator tenants.

The move builds on Prattville's existing downtown revitalization work, which has included small-business incubator grants in recent years. The Innovate Alabama affiliation is intended to amplify those efforts by layering in statewide coordination that local programs cannot easily access on their own.
For a city where many residents currently drive to Montgomery for work, the practical stakes are significant. If the designation yields new business starts, apprenticeship programs or employer-led training, it could ease that outbound commute while broadening Autauga County's tax base over time.
Prattville officials said residents and small-business owners should expect concrete announcements within the next 60 to 120 days, including workshops, incubator opportunities and partner-driven hiring events tied directly to the new designation.
