Prattville Lions Stun No. 2 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 2-1, Eye Doubleheader Rematch
Prattville baseball stunned No. 2 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 2-1 in Tuscaloosa, with a doubleheader rematch on the horizon for JR Myers's Lions.

Prattville's varsity baseball team knocked off No. 2-ranked Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 2-1 Wednesday in Tuscaloosa, handing one of the state's premier Class 7A programs a tight loss and giving the Lions back-to-back quality wins against the Patriots in a critical two-game area series.
The result extended what has been a banner spring for head coach JR Myers and his Lions. Prattville entered the week with a 21-5 overall record, leading Class 7A, Area 5, and the offense that carried them to that mark was on display again in Tuscaloosa. It was not an offensive explosion Wednesday; it was a 2-1 grind on the road against a ranked opponent, which carries a different weight.
Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa came into the week among the top two programs in Alabama's largest classification, a distinction built on consistent pitching and a stacked lineup. Prattville outdueled them anyway, holding the Patriots to a single run in what official athletics accounts described as an intense matchup throughout.
The win is part of what makes this Lions squad stand out. Earlier this season, through just 16 games, Prattville had already scored 143 runs, a total that surpassed the program's entire run output across 35 games a year ago. The offensive depth that fueled those lopsided early-season results has not abandoned the Lions when games get tighter; it has simply been complemented by pitching that can win 2-1.
Prattville had already hosted Hillcrest at Roger Lambert Field the day before, on Tuesday, setting up consecutive games against a team ranked at the top of the state. Winning the road leg of that series against a No. 2 opponent underscores how seriously this Lions group should be taken as area play deepens.
A doubleheader rematch with Hillcrest remains on the schedule, giving both programs a chance to reset the balance of this rivalry before the postseason picture becomes clear. For Prattville, the question is whether they can keep doing what they did Wednesday in Tuscaloosa: manufacture just enough runs, limit damage on the mound, and find a way to win a baseball game that does not allow for margin.
At 7A, Area 5, there will be no shortage of opportunities to answer that question.
