Prattville is set to review whether its sanitation fees and service costs still line up, with a Sanitation Committee meeting scheduled to include a sanitation rate study at the Public Works Training Facility.

The City of Prattville posted the public notice on April 27 for the Wednesday, May 6, 2026, meeting at 2:00 p.m. The session will be held at the Public Works Training Facility, 1825 Cooters Pond Road, Prattville, AL 36066, and residents seeking information can contact the Prattville City Clerk’s Office at 595-0120.

The draft agenda item in the current notice is narrowly framed, but it carries clear consequences for daily life in Prattville and Autauga County. A rate study can be the first step toward changes in what households pay for sanitation service, how the department covers operating costs, and whether future adjustments are needed to keep trash collection and disposal running smoothly. Prattville’s Sanitation Department says it maintains a safe, efficient and effective waste collection and disposal system that meets the needs of the community, which is why committee work on rates matters well beyond City Hall.

The May 6 meeting also fits a pattern of recurring sanitation review. A Sept. 22, 2025, committee notice included draft items on the financial status of the sanitation department, purchase of new trucks, a new sanitation building and possible changes to the code of ordinances. An Aug. 5, 2024, notice listed possible code changes, the financial state of the sanitation department, new trucks, incentive pay for working holidays and a new sanitation building. On Oct. 1, 2024, the Prattville City Council passed amended ordinances in Chapter 66, Utilities, Article IV, Solid Waste, underscoring that sanitation rules have already been under active revision.

Those policy decisions reach into ordinary routines. Prattville’s trash-collection page says yard trash is picked up once a week, while excess trash and bulky items such as appliances and furniture require a fee paid in advance and scheduled through the Sanitation Department. That makes sanitation one of the city services residents notice immediately when routes change, fees rise or service standards shift.

The May 6 committee meeting is therefore more than a routine calendar item. It is part of the city’s ongoing effort to decide how Prattville’s waste system is funded, managed and kept responsive before any bigger service change reaches residents’ curbside.
