Prattville, Wetumpka Clash in High School Baseball Rivalry Game
Prattville's Lions, batting .400 as a collective threat and riding a 21-5 record, faced rival Wetumpka at Roger Lambert Field in one of Autauga County's sharpest early-April baseball matchups.

Prattville senior outfielder Dorsett Jackson entered Friday's rivalry game against Wetumpka batting over .400 and carrying one of the rarest individual feats in high school baseball. On March 18, the Shelton State Community College commit went single, double, triple, and home run in an 11-6 victory over Holtville, completing a cycle that few players accomplish across an entire career.
Jackson and the Lions brought a 21-5 record to Roger Lambert Field for the cross-county clash with Wetumpka, whose Indians arrived at 13-5 in their own right. The meeting drew from a rivalry rooted in proximity: the two schools sit roughly 20 miles apart along the Alabama River corridor, and their baseball matchups routinely attract some of the louder crowds on the spring sports calendar in both Autauga and Elmore counties.
Prattville's offense has defined the 2026 season. Alongside Jackson in the heart of the lineup, shortstop Aiden Urnis, committed to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, anchors the infield and has been among the Lions' steadiest run producers. The offense generated 143 runs through the first 16 games of the year, already surpassing the 134 runs the program scored across all 35 games during a 12-23 campaign in 2025 that ended without a postseason appearance.
Head Coach JR Myers credited a specific shift in approach as the turning point: "We don't want to do the complicated things better, but we want to do the basic fundamentals better than anything. And I think that helps. Baseball is an extremely hard game, so we've even talked about how to breathe better in stressful situations."
That philosophy has translated into a team ranked ninth in the Alabama Sports Writers Association 7A poll and sitting first in Area 5 with area play still ahead. The Wetumpka game, a non-area rivalry fixture, gave Prattville a chance to measure itself against a winning program before the stretch run begins. Photo galleries from the game moved quickly across social media Friday evening, and fans who were at Roger Lambert Field are encouraged to send their own photos and video from the stands to be featured in coverage. The Lions return to action Tuesday, April 7, hosting Hillcrest High School at 4:30 p.m.
