Baker City Police Arrest Juvenile for Gang-Related Graffiti Tagging
A juvenile faces a felony charge after gang-related graffiti referencing the 18th Street Gang appeared at two Baker City locations, with cleanup costs topping $1,000.

Gang-style tags referencing the 18th Street Gang turned up at two Baker City locations on the evening of March 18, prompting a swift police response that ended with a juvenile in custody at a detention facility across the state line in Idaho.
Baker City Police officers responded to reports of vandalism at the alley between 1st Street and 2nd Street and at the Highway 7 railroad underpass near Orchard Street. Detectives joined the investigation immediately, and within days the department identified one juvenile suspect and transported the individual to the Canyon County Juvenile Detention Center in Idaho, where the juvenile was lodged on a charge of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, a Class C felony.
The estimated cost to remove the graffiti exceeds $1,000.
The department's press release made clear the arrest is not the end of the case. "This investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional arrests are anticipated," the release stated.

Baker City Police framed the incident as part of a broader commitment to keep organized criminal activity out of Baker County. "Baker City Police Department, in collaboration with regional law enforcement partners, takes all gang-related criminal activity seriously. Preventing the establishment of organized criminal groups within our community remains a top priority," the department said. The release added: "We remain dedicated to protecting our youth, supporting our families, and ensuring the continued safety and well-being of all who call Baker County and Baker City home."
No identifying details about the juvenile suspect have been released. The investigation's coordination with regional law enforcement partners suggests authorities may be tracking connections beyond Baker City's boundaries as they pursue additional suspects.
