Baker County log shows harassment arrests, traffic stops and crash reports
Crystal Lynn Harding appeared twice in one day’s log, while deputies also handled a driver citation and two rural crashes from Shaffner Creek Road to Weatherby.

A Baker City woman appeared twice in the same daily public-safety log, one of the clearest signs that even routine calls can stack up fast in a county this small. Crystal Lynn Harding, 41, was listed in two separate harassment cases tied to Broadway Street and D Street, alongside a driving citation on North Cedar Road and two rural crash reports.
In one Baker City Police case, Harding was arrested at 10:52 a.m. in the 2200 block of Broadway Street and later released from jail. In another entry, she was cited and released at 9:19 a.m. in a domestic-violence harassment case in the 2000 block of D Street. Oregon harassment law can cover offensive physical contact or threats that would reasonably cause alarm, which gives the charge more weight than a simple nuisance complaint. Baker City police says it emphasizes community policing, transparency and public safety, and the log shows that mission in plain view through the exact times and addresses attached to each call.
The same log also recorded a citation for Patrick Roger Birdsong, 64, of Corvallis, who was cited and released at 8:09 a.m. April 10 on North Cedar Road for failure to perform duties of a driver. In Oregon, that offense applies when a driver involved in an injury or death crash does not stop, remain at the scene, provide required information and render reasonable assistance. It is generally a Class C felony, or a Class B felony if serious physical injury or death results. The log does not add narrative detail beyond the charge, but it does show the matter was handled as a citation rather than a jail booking.
The Baker County Sheriff’s Office also logged two noninjury accidents, one at 6:57 p.m. April 13 on Shaffner Creek Road and another at 8:18 a.m. April 10 on Sisley Creek Road near Weatherby. Those road names matter in Baker County, where long rural corridors can turn even noninjury wrecks into delays for ranchers, commuters and anyone waiting on a deputy or tow truck. The sheriff’s office says its patrol duties include traffic safety, traffic law enforcement and traffic accident investigations, which matches the mix of incidents in this log.
Baker County’s population was 16,668 in the 2020 Census, a scale that makes each address and each response feel local. The day’s entries, from Broadway Street and D Street to North Cedar Road and the back roads near Weatherby, show a public-safety system spending its time where residents live, drive and sometimes collide with the law.
