37-year-old man shot in 4900 block of Reisterstown Road dies; homicide probe

Baltimore Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 37-year-old man dead after officers found him in the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road late Monday night. "The Baltimore Police Department's homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that killed a 37-year-old man in Northwest Baltimore," authorities said.

"On July 7, at approximately 9:56 p.m., Northwest District patrol officers responded to the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road for a report of a shooting," according to the initial timeline established by investigators. Officers located the man on scene; "the man was initially alert and reacting to first responders, according to authorities." An ambulance transported him to a local hospital, and "he eventually succumbed to his injuries."

Police shut down the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road and the intersection at Oakmont Avenue while investigators processed the scene. "Police shut down the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road so that investigators could search for cartridge casings and collect other evidence of the shooting," and WBFF photo captions show a crime lab technician placing yellow evidence markers around a closed mini-mart near the intersection.

Early dispatch information differed from later findings. An initial bulletin noted that "Baltimore police are investigating a shooting in the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road where an adult male was shot in the foot," and police said "No suspects in custody as of early reports." Investigators reconciled those early notes with subsequent medical updates that identified the victim as 37 years old and confirmed his death at the hospital.

Detectives have asked the public for help. The Reisterstown Road block has seen previous violence: WMAR reported a separate overnight incident the same night that "happened some hours later in the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road at around 4:05 a.m." when officers found a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old man suffering gunshot wounds after being shot on Fear Avenue and running to Reisterstown Road. Authorities said the two incidents are being treated as distinct events while homicide detectives continue to process evidence at the 4900 block scene. Investigators said they will release further details, including any suspect descriptions or surveillance footage, as they develop.
